Who were Jeryme Brown and Mitchell Smalls?

Jeryme Brown

On November 10, 1988, a shining star by the name of Jeryme Ashon Brown entered humanity. Jeryme grew into a bright eighth grade student with a promising future. Jeryme was good with math and computers and had a significant talent for music. This passion inspired him to one day become a music producer and own his own recording studio. He had the ability to make a difference in the world and was very compassionate, loving, and educated. On April 16th , 2003 Jeryme's earth star suddenly faded, and it now shines in heaven. Jeryme Brown was killed in a random act of violence, the result of a mistaken identity, but Jeryme lives on in the hearts of his friends and family and through the work of the Jeryme Brown and Mitchell Smalls Foundation.

Mitchell Smalls

On October 23, 2003, a beacon of light by the name of Mitchell Smalls graced the earth. Mitchell, affectionately called "Snookie", was a vibrant and charismatic child whose joy was infectious. An inquisitive and helpful child, Snookie would often carry his toy doctor's case around with him. Even at his young age, Snookie enjoyed learning and loved playing with his V-Tech Dora the Explorer learning game. Mitchell was a social butterfly and could quickly charm new friends. On December 8, 2006, Mitchell's beautiful spirit left this earth to reside in heaven. Mitchell was killed in a random senseless act of violence, but Mitchell continues to shine in the hearts of his friends and family and through the work of the Jeryme Brown and Mitchell Smalls Foundation.

Our Program

The Program is staffed by highly qualified and dedicated employees who work diligently toward a common goal of exposing young people to a variety of exciting opportunities that will enhance their life experiences and help them to grow into well-rounded and productive young adults.

All staff, including repeat volunteers, are required to undergo a background search. Updated vaccinations are kept on file for all Program Staff.

The Passport Program adheres to all guidelines for pupil staff ratio provided by The Department of Human Resources. To achieve this, the program schedules classroom assistants to work with program staff to meet departmental regulations.

Ms. Christina Guillen, founder & executive director of The Passport Program, serves as a volunteer. Ms. Guillen holds a Master of Education degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, and has studied at both the University of Georgia and Albany State University. Ms. Guillen has held many leadership positions that involved working with children in an after-school environment, including serving as department chair for Social Studies.

Our Staff

Lead Instructors work with Program students on a daily basis, providing supervision and assistance with daily program activities. Lead Instructor positions are staffed by teachers and school personnel at each program site.

We are a small team of staff who want to accomplish big things! We are also supported by the teachers, administrators, and staff of Pointe South Middle School who volunteer with the Passport Program. We are in the process of growing our relationship with the local community, understanding that it takes an entire community to raise a child and help that child turn into a productive member of society.
